Lead wire which was often the only thing available, apart from copper wire to increase weight on your nymphs and lures.
Still useful to add weight to your flies hidden in the thorax or wrapped up shank before overwinding Chenille or Cactus body to get your lures deeper in the cooler months or enable that river pattern to cut through the flow.
